As beautiful as Iron…

Isn’t it funny how life throws memories at you triggered by the occurrence of one event or the other? What’s more intriguing is how these age old memories can be so clear that we can recreate the scene if we had the power to do so.

I recall studying about the late Margaret Thatcher during my secondary school days at Harrogate Ladies College, UK. My History teacher, Mr Staniland, would always exclaim when he taught about the Iron Lady and her legacy. Many years later, to my surprise, I have found that some people use the term “Iron Lady” as a reference point for friends, enemies and frienemies—like they usually do to sound intelligent—having no clue about what it actually means, nor where it came from.

Today, I write to honour a woman who has been described as a radical and sometimes confrontational politician who was prepared to stand by her convictions for better or worse. Plain-spoken like a queen in her own right, Margaret Thatcher is one of the worlds most influential and respected political leaders, as well as the most dynamic woman to lead a major Western democracy. Winning three successive General Elections not in the PDP manner, she served as British Prime Minister for more than eleven years (1979-90), a record unmatched in the 20th century.

Among her many achievements, one cannot deny the fact that she aged gracefully.
Margaret went from this…

At 87, without a doubt, this woman still looked good in all ramifications. Her hair, lips, eyes, cheeks, and clothes have defined her image over time and will remain a lasting memory at the mention of her name.

I leave you with remarkable quotes from her lifetime that I believe relate to beauty and our image as a whole. Margaret Thatcher, 1925-2013. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
